OTDR Trace Analysis

In today's world of ever changing technology, installations have to be precise and meet all the specifications required or the job isn't properly completed. When dealing with fiber optical installations no device verifies the fiber better or more completely than the Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR). Unfortunately these units run from $4000 to $25,000 a pop depending on requirements.

This class is broken into 3 basic parts. The first is what OTDRs are and how they are beneficial to the fiber installer. Part two is the basics of OTDR reading. The third course is a hands on lab on trace analysis.

This course is designed to take the mystery out of OTDR TRACE ANALYSIS by teaching what you will see on an OTDR trace and how to know just what you are looking at. The course uses real OTDR traces which have been saved and activated on a computer so each student has "his own OTDR screen to work with." The course teaches how to read OTDR traces and DOES NOT teach a specific type or manufacturer of equipment.
